Future Media Practitioner

“Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense”.
What got me honestly to Mass Communication Program was the field of Broadcasting, Events Organization, Public relation, Theater Arts and same with the TV and radio production; that I thought I could definitely excel.
Well, I like my course and I definitely loved  it , I felt that the field really suits me and my personality, for my likes  are all into it as well.
I’m just an incoming 3rd year student in this upcoming school year, so, my knowledge about Mass Communication  might not be that broad as of now and there are still a lot of subjects and things that I need to study and to tackle too. But to tell you right away, well I’m definitely enjoying it. So, I would just like to share to you my experiences as a Mass Communication student from the day that I’ve started learning it.

To begin with, as of now, were fond of attending different seminars that deals with the topics that would most likely help us in the near future, we were meeting different speakers that are truly credible enough on the said field.

-->

There were also instances wherein we were able to meet directors: commercials, films, art, indie film directors and etc... That give us prior knowledge on certain things one should consider if ever we wanted to continue on the field of cinema.

with celebrities

It is indeed really fun as well, when we come to see distinctive celebrity personalities either from the film or from the television industry. It feels great when they’ve come to be very accommodating that they let us to take pictures with them; and being polite to respond to some of our questions. That let us to become more sociable and to forget our shyness.

What I also loved about  my chosen field is when we were assigned to organized certain events even just inside our classrooms, we tend to make short films and video presentation already and showcase it to certain audiences such as students and some professors as well. There were also some instances where we were also hosting a program or to become a presenter on certain events, that really helped us to boosts our self-confidence no matter where we are.

Moreover, Theater Arts is also a part of the Mass Communication program, wherein we were able to express ourselves through acting, dancing, and singing. It also helped us to become more comfortable as to performing to large number of audiences and to present in front of them.

Those fields were just some of the fields being tackled through the Mass Communication Program; so, I hope to learn more about it in the near  future to come.

Mass Communication students may seemed to be easy-go-lucky to other people, but they didn't know that being a Mass Comm student it is as tough as any other courses in the field of education even in the real-life situations. Being in media is a very tedious job and being a Mass Comm student also has great responsibility to face. Being a Mass Comm student has a lot of trainings to do because to be in the media industry that is very broad world. We may not know how to heal wounds like nurses, we may not win the case just like lawyers do, we may not be as intelligent as mathematicians but we, Mass Communication are also can be heroes and not just good heroes but great leaders that could also create a huge difference on our society.

Surfing by the sea

Kelly Slater

Ever tried surfing? Well this one guy didn’t just tried it but excel in it very well. This guy is none other than Robert Kelly Slater  born on February 11, 1972 in Cocoa Beach, FL, USA. He is an American professional surfer who is  known for his competitive expertise and style.
He has been a 10 times World Champion and having 46 victory tittles. Upon winning his 5th world title in 1997, Slater passed Australian surfing legend Mark Richards to become the most successful champion in the history of the sport.  He is known for being the youngest award holder at the age of 20 and that didn’t stop him from doing the sport he loves but continued  it even until he was awarded as the oldest one who won the title at the age of 38. Slater became the first surfer ever to be awarded two perfect scores for a total 20 out of 20 points under the ASP two-wave scoring system.
Aside from surfing, Kelly could also be seen on various media forms, newspapers, magazines, TV Shows and movies are a part of his celebrity life. Slater played the recurring character Jimmy Slade on several episodes of the popular tv show known as Baywatch in the early 1990s. He has also appeared in an episode of the reality show The Girls Next Door, and has also starred in many surf films throughout his career. As many surfers do in their spare time, Kelly Slater picks up his guitar and plays some music. During the 90's he formed a band called The Surfers which released an album of surf music called Songs From the Pipe along with his friends in 1998. There was also a video game that came out in 2002 that was also named after him the “Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer” it was the first video game that realisticaly captured the sport of surfing.  But prior to this, he has also appeared on “Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3” as a playable character with a surfboard. Apart from this achievements Slater also releases his autobiography, “Pipe Dreams: A Surfer's Journey”. And because of success in 2008 he then releases his second book with Phil Jarratt, entitled “Kelly Slater: For the Love”.

On the other hand, due to Slater’s passion about preserving oceans globally and protecting temperate reefs in California he has done this through his relationship with Reefs Neck. (log on to: http://www.kellyslaterfoundation.org/)
It was just May 8, 2010 when the United States House of Representatives honored Slater in H. Res. 792 for his "outstanding and unprecedented achievements in the world of surfing and for being an ambassador of the sport and excellent role model."

On this year’s stat, he is currently first on the world ranking garnering of 10000 points and so, he is still continuing the sport he loved best, “surfing” may Kelly Slater be an inspiration to all of us that with enough hard work and determination everything would be the best.

FVR from the year I was born

Fidel Valdez Ramos (born March 18, 1928), popularly known as FVR, was the 12th President of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. Prior to his election as president, Ramos served in the Cabinet of President Corazon Aquino first as chief-of-staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and, later on, as Secretary of National Defense from 1986 to 1991.

Fidel V. R amos together with Juan Ponce Enrile was hailed by many Filipinos for their decision to stop supporting the dictatorial administration of Marcos on the 1986 EDSA Revolution,  considering that there connected by blood.

According to, www.wikipedia.org --From Ramos’ leadership, the Philippines experienced a period of political stability and rapid economic growth and expansion
As an outcome of this, it created programs intended to promote national reconciliation and unity among Filipinos. FVR was able to secure major peace agreements with Muslim leaders and military rebels, which renewed investor in the Philippine economy. As a result of Ramos’ hands-on approach to the economy, the Philippines were dubbed by various international magazines and observers as Asia’s Next Economic Tiger.

However, due to the ’97 Asian Financial Crisis it hardens the economic growth of the country and it was during the last term of the President but luckily the economy still managed to make rebound despite of the crisis that occurs.

To date, Ramos is the first and only non-Catholic President of the Philippines. He is a Protestant and belongs to the United Methodist Church.

Ace Water Spa

To have a vacation even just for a day or two would really be a very nice feeling--you get to relax over the stressed weekdays and bond with your family or friends.

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths”. ~Etty Hillesum

Everyday for me is called a vacation just as long as I could relax on my own special way but maybe, the last time that I had a so-called vacation happened just by last week--upon the ending of another school year. And since I’m a college student, the word haggard could always be seen on me, I tend to do a lot of research works, projects and assignments, the never-ending reviewing on exams, plus my different chores at home and my social life of courseJ. And so, our family decided to treat ourselves and pamper ourselves in a spa at Ace Water Spa where we spend the entire morning there. The Ace Spa offers a different kind of feeling apart from other spa salon. There were pools with different variations for relaxation; there is also a place for kids to enjoy like the different fountains and toys; there were also the steam and sauna rooms where it could be used for health benefit of one person. You could even just lie down on one part of it and continually feel the massage.
It was really relaxing and I felt like I was really stressed free and relieved from all anxiety. And though it was relaxing it was also very fun.

IM BUSY! Is it an excuse?

The topic regarding plagiarisms has been too controversial because of the most recent issue of Manuel Pangilinan where he was unable to quote a part of his speech.

Therefore, is having a busy schedule really an excuse of committing plagiarism?
You might be busy from work or from school, fatigued over the entire day working, and creating and making new ideas. That we tend to commit the sin of plagiarism. We might not be too wary about it but sometimes we does.

Well, I personally am guilty of committing Plagiarism, since I find it exhausting to create everything from scratch and to re-edit and keep on editing that sometimes your not even sure if what your doing is right. One more thing is when you feel like its time pressure and you were force to meet a certain goal at a specific time. That is when you thought that  copying from other people's work would be better.  Like what was stated by Roy Peter Clark,
“Lack of time is the enemy of responsible judgment. A 24-hour news cycle with more reporters in their chairs than out on the street will lead inevitably to this kind of abuse”.

but we must always have to place into consideration the time and effort other people are  entailing while they does the same thing. You see to copy else’s work or to get ideas from other people is definitely not a bad thing. We even sometimes have the same ideas. But what we tend to forget is to acknowledged them for helping us with a specific article or what.

So upon copying info. and data we must also take great responsibility upon doing it so.

Ever thought of living without the so-called "Journalism"

But first what is journalism? It is a process whereby credible or trained people are trying to report and investigate events to the broad audiences for them to be capable of learning, so without newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, and worst even the INTERNET! It could be very hard for us to be informed as to what is happening around us. And might be the root cause of IGNORANCE. It might be easy for me to justify it by now that I could easily utter “hey, I can live without those mediums!” but if it would really happen in our world, have we ever thought about it?
As for me,  like what I’ve said it could really be hard for all of us. I mean, since the day that we were born we were into those mediums already and were capable of living with them, and if ever one day, all of it would be gone it would be a 3600  turn in our world. It would also signify that as if we’ve never been civilized like living in an ancient time. I believe our ancestors really strive for the best to make our life more easier and these mediums were all presented to us for our betterment, to be informed, to be entertained and to be enjoyed.

You see, media is everywhere, computers that helped us with our reports and projects. Twitter and Facebook account to entertain us, television same with the radio, which give us information as to what is occurring in our environment it also gives us the sense of transparency even on our government and other offices that the mass people should be capable of learning too. There are also the print media--the magazines and the newspapers. That gives information as well, we might not be fond of reading it but honestly, it could really be helpful for us.

But you see although journalism are really in the air it still depends on us the mass people of whether to believe to it or not, and to be perceived by it or not.:)
