Beat assignment..

              How the police station does really works? I’ve never thought of actually being in a police station not until I actually didJ

As part of our assignment on one of my major subject, was to interview certain people and personalities to help us solve certain issues and to let them affirm, negate or to even discussed it with us. As for my part, I was assigned to be in a police beat, where news that deals with the peace and order of the state is relevant. Because of it, I’ve visited WPD, the western police station in U.N ave., Manila, and try our luck to get the chance to interview.

And as we enter the office, immediately I’ve learned the fact that you have to ask the right person so that, you could be headed on your desired place and destination or otherwise, you might end up going home without your desired intention. And so, we’ve entered various offices and department  in WPD, and I’ve interviewed a victim of robbery where she’s complaining towards the police people, there were issues regarding rape, homicide and robbery that also gave us a sense of fear towards our stay in WPDJ but still, thankfully that there were inspectors and policemen who were really accommodating and really help us out throughout our interview experience.

It was pretty hard because there were a lot of complainants and suspects that you could hear and a lot of crimes to witness. I’ve realized that everyday in our lives there were really a lot of disorders happening in our place and although some of us hate policemen because of their dirty works, still we shouldn’t always generalized certain characteristics of them coz. There were still some of them who’s truly dedicated on their job. And to be like them of having a tedious and dangerous job since dealing with suspects and criminals are their everyday routine.

I’ve never really thought I could be in that place, but, well, I actually didJ it gave me more of a sense of confidence towards dealing with other people to interview various type of people carrying a recorder with you, it feels like a true reporter or a mass people.

I’m sure time will come where I could really be accustomed with this kind of scenario, but for the mean time, this first hand feeling I’ve experienced would truly stay into my mind.

Camp Journ'11

It was as a 5day boot camp, March 21-25,2011.Offered to some students at St. Paul, and as one of the lucky ones, I was chosen to become a part of it to attend on the said seminar.

On the first day, we had the chance to learn more on the journalism basics where we made a blog account to encode all of our works and learnings:) it was headed by Ms. SHERBET JAEN KATIGBAK-MANALILI

Day 2 with Ms. MAE LORRAINE RAFOLS,and Mr. GERARD DE SAGUN where we focuses on the news writing, how to write the news which comprises of the news lead and news feature. There were certain assignments given to us and a promised prize as to whoever would be chosen.

For the third day, we just had a continuation on what had happened from the 2nd day, and tackles topics such as the basic editing on our works. Our mentor do make sure to talk to each and one of us to edit our work and to make necessary changes about it.

Day 4, only focuses with Photography with Mr. JOVEL LORENZO, certain techniques to have in mind when it comes to basic photography. It was also pretty much fun when we just only pose in front of the camera and had our pictures taken by Sir Jovel,  the whole day was pretty much fun and it deals more on going around the campus premises..

And as for the 5th day, with Mister JEREMIAH MANALILI where the focus of the seminar was merely on design and layout and illustration, where we tackles more on the magazine or the print media, we were taught how to do simple ideas from creating magazines as to its layouting as well.

The 5days camp boot, was really informative, it was pretty much simple yet it created a huge impact on my part, and at the same time I've also got the chance to create my own blog account, where my thoughts and reflections might help others as well:))

Future Media Practitioner

“Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense”.

What got me honestly to Mass Communication Program was the field of Broadcasting, Events Organization, Public relation, Theater Arts and same with the TV and radio production; that I thought I could definitely excel.

Well, I like my course and I definitely loved  it , I felt that the field really suits me and my personality, for my likes  are all into it as well.

I’m just an incoming 3^rd year student in this upcoming school year, so, my knowledge about Mass Communication  might not be that broad as of now and there are still a lot of subjects and things that I need to study and to tackle too. But to tell you right away, well I’m definitely enjoying it. So, I would just like to share to you my experiences as a Mass Communication student from the day that I’ve started learning it.

To begin with, as of now, were fond of attending different seminars that deals with the topics that would most likely help us in the near future, we were meeting different speakers that are truly credible enough on the said field.

There were also instances wherein we were able to meet directors: commercials, films, art, indie film directors and etc... That give us prior knowledge on certain things one should consider if ever we wanted to continue on the field of cinema.

It is indeed really fun as well, when we come to see distinctive celebrity personalities either from the film or from the television industry. It feels great when they’ve come to be very accommodating that they let us to take pictures with them; and being polite to respond to some of our questions. That let us to become more sociable and to forget our shyness. 

What I also loved about  my chosen field is when we were assigned to organized certain events even just inside our classrooms, we tend to make short films and video presentation already and showcase it to certain audiences such as students and some professors as well. There were also some instances where we were also hosting a program or to become a presenter on certain events, that really helped us to boosts our self-confidence no matter where we are.

Moreover, Theater Arts is also a part of the Mass Communication program, wherein we were able to express ourselves through acting, dancing, and singing. It also helped us to become more comfortable as to performing to large number of audiences and to present in front of them.

Those fields were just some of the fields being tackled through the Mass Communication Program; so, I hope to learn more about it in the near  future to come.

Mass Communication students may seemed to be easy-go-lucky to other people, but they didn't know that being a Mass Comm student it is as tough as any other courses in the field of education even in the real-life situations. Being in media is a very tedious job and being a Mass Comm student also has great responsibility to face. Being a Mass Comm student has a lot of trainings to do because to be in the media industry that is very broad world. We may not know how to heal wounds like nurses, we may not win the case just like lawyers do, we may not be as intelligent as mathematicians but we, Mass Communication are also can be heroes and not just good heroes but great leaders that could also create a huge difference on our society.
